Q- Is Facility Accreditation mandatory for all DMEPOSs suppliers?
A-
No.  Facility Accreditation is mandatory for all Pedorthists, Post Mastectomy Fitters, orthopedic fitters/technicians, athletic trainers, DME and Pharmacy suppliers and certain other suppliers.  It is currently voluntary for DPMs, orthotists, prosthetists, and certain other defined medical practitioners.

When we’ve made changes on our end, we will notify you by e-mail and you have the option to login and download a completely updated version. To keep your service active in later years and to continue to save money through our partnership program,  AccreditationChamp will charge you a continuing annual membership fee. You may cancel at any anniversary date.

Q- Why is there DMEPOS Facility Accreditation?
A- CMS is trying to reduce fraud and abuse by verifying that all DMEPOS suppliers a) really exist and b) meet certain minimum standards. The facility accreditation process uses onsite inspectors to verify both.

Q- Who is doing the accreditation?
A- CMS authorized (or “deemed”) 10 agencies to manage the process. Different agencies have different specialties or areas of focus within DMEPOS.

Q- Which agencies make the most sense for AccreditationChamp's system?
A- The AccreditationChamp system has been cross-referenced to the rules of ABC and BOC.

Q- What does ABC and BOC stand for and how can I reach them?
A- ABC stands for the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics. To read Facility Accreditation Information and required standards from ABC, click here.

BOC stands for The Board of Certification/Accreditation, International. To read Facility Accreditation Information and required standards from BOC,

Q- How much do ABC and BOC charge to accredit my facility?
A- For both ABC and BOC, the costs average around $1,000 per year for one location, in a three year window. Fees for nearby additional locations are reduced. Some fees are paid up-front. Please check out their websites to see current pricing. Remember, all agencies must send an on-site inspector.

Q- Can this manual be used for both ABC and BOC?
A- Yes.

Q- Where can I read more about CMS’s rules for Facility Accreditation?
A- Go to our Medicare Links page here.
